With developments of science and technology and improvements of humans’living standards, the function of products no longer services as the sole factor which meets consumers’satisfactory. Seeking much more interesting, individuation and humanity, the masses gradually emphasize the outward expression of emotional elements within every product. This project introduces the relationships between product designing and emotional appeal, and covers every emotional factor in the process of emotional design, as well as its influence on the vehicle design. Through introduction, this project aims that people-oriented emotion design plays a significant role in present vehicle design. This project analyses three hierarchical levels of emotional design-including introspection level, behavior level and instinct level and points out that the proportions of emotion become larger in consumers’choices. It focuses on emotional factors’ different influences on the vehicle design, such as society, politics, religion, ethics, cultures and technology. These influences suggest the vital relationships between consumers’affection needs and design’s elements requirements. Besides, this project explores various elements’effects on the vehicle design from designers’perspectives. After the exploration, it proposes an idea that it is necessary for designers to endow and inherit their thoughts, for instance esthetics, emotions and cultures. Furthermore, based on emotional appeal, this paper establishes a variety of methods and procedures to design vehicles. Through survey and data from consumer groups and vehicle samples, it summarizes the emotional determiners of targeted vehicles and expresses the design concepts by schematic drawing, modeling in three-dimensional and visual rendering. Last but not the least, this paper obtains the product feedbacks from the customers’ questionnaire survey. Eventually, it comes to the conclusion that targeted vehicles achieve success with the help of emotional appeal, which proves that emotional appeal provides crucial values and influences in vehicle designs.
