Mechanical seal is a kind of effective sealing form and widely used in chemical industry, pharmaceutical, food, metallurgy and many industry machinery equipments. The most critical parts of mechanical seal are seal ring and auxiliary seal O-ring. This thesis takes single face mechanical seal as the research object and carries out detail research by use of finite element simulation, model building, numerical simulation and experiment. The axisymmetric computational model of mechanical seal rotating ring and stationary ring is established with the finite element analysis platform ANSYS, the temperature and stress field distributions of seal ring in stable working are simulated and analyzed. The research on the influences of material thermal conductivity, medium pressure and rotational speed on temperature and stress field is carried out;Using ANSYS software to simulate deformation, Von Mises stress distribution, and contact pressures with sleeve in two different mounting state, and the influences of medium pressure, groove width and compression ratio on the performance of O-ring are obtained; Micro-surface morphology of the seal rings is simulated by the adaptive correlation function, micro-hydrodynamic lubrication model of mechanical seal is also established. By programming with finite difference method and MATLAB software, the calculations of fluid film pressure distribution, fluid film thickness distribution of micro-hydrodynamic lubrication of seal rings are successfully accomplished; The detail research on the influences of spring pressure, rotational speed, face width, face deformation and face inclination on the performance of mechanical seal rings lubrication such as fluid film pressure distribution, fluid film thickness, friction, heat generation, leakage are carried out, and a series of performance curves are obtained and explained; A testing rig for mechanical seal is developed, experimental study on the influences of medium pressure, rotational speed and spring pressure on the performance of mechanical seal such as temperature rise, friction torque and leakage are carried out. The experimental conclusions prove the correctness of the theoretical research to some extent. The results of this thesis can provide theoretical reference for mechanical seal applications and further research.
