Due to its intuitive nature, graph has always been a very important tool in the grid management and scheduling. Common-used graphs in the distribution network are geographical diagram and one-line diagram. Geographical diagram is generated according to the geographical coordinates of the devices and the drawback is that the result graph is overlapping. One-line diagram is generated only from its topological connections, regardless of the devices’geographical coordinates and its result graph is easy-to-read. One-line is more effective for the grid management and scheduling.Traditionally one-line diagram is hand-drawn by professionals using electrical-dedicated graphics editing software and its drawbacks are:time-consuming, error-prone and synchronization is poor. Especially with the continuous expansion of the scale of the grid, the number of the devices and complexity are increasing, making the hand-drawn one-line diagram is nearly impossible. So automatic layout of the one-diagram is proposed and studied these years. On the basis of research of distribution network connection forms and characteristics of devices are connected, this paper applies computer graphics technology for research of automatically layout of complex distribution network. We have researched several automatic layout algorithms and finally selected Attractive-Repulsion algorithm on the basis of comparative analysis of their pros and cons and made the corresponding improvement, and eventually implemented the algorithm using Java language. The jobs of modeling the distribution network topologies and their connection relations, looking for automatic layout algorithm suitable for distribution network are difficulty. The jobs of improving the Attractive-Repulsion algorithm based on the analysis method of feree directed algorithms and testing our layout system which can reduce one-line diagram easier to read.Because one-line diagrams not only require accurate display of topological connection of devices of distribution network, but also the result diagram must be smooth vertically and horizontally. So we must make orthogonal treatment to the result diagram of improved attractive-repulsion algorithm. Finally, we design and implement the layout system and tested the system in the management of distribution network in Shanghai’s one region. We tested several sets of data:the number of devices is increasing gradually and the complexity of topology connections is increasing too so that we can test the system’s practicability and endurance. The experimental results show the graphs generated using the layout algorithm proposed in this paper are easy-to-read and it is a great help to the scheduling of distribution network.
