The combustion residue level of existing incendiary agents which include oxidizer is high and the flame length of them is short. According the principle of zero oxygen balance, the incendiary agent which include double base propellant and a small amount of aluminum powder as combustible agent, ammonium perchlorate as oxidizer was prepared, It has properties such as high heat of combustion, long flame length and low level of combustion residue.By the use of Calorimetry experiments, It is found that the heat of combustion of double base propellant/ammonium perchlorate system gets maximum value when the mass ratio of double base propellant and ammonium perchlorate is1:1. The heat of combustion of the double base propellant/ammonium perchlorate/aluminum powder systems are not subject to the calculated value. when the content of aluminum powder gets higher, the heat of combustion of this system is lower, since the combustion efficiency of the aluminum powder reduces. The content of aluminum powder should not exceed12%.The Optical Target experiment and Manometric Bomb experiment were executed in order to measure the systems’burning rate in ignitor, It is found that the burning rate of the systems is determined by the content of the double base propellant and ammonium perchlorate. When the mass ratio of double base propellant and ammonium perchlorate is close to1:1, the system reach the highest burning rate.Image measurement method was applied in this paper in order to measure the flame length of systems in ignitor. It is found that the flame length of the double base propellant/ammonium perchlorate/aluminum powder systems is determined by the burning rate. The burning rate of the system rises, the flame length is becoming longer. In the thermal Thermogravimetric Analysis-Evolved Gas Analysis combined experiments, the thermal decomposition of double base propellant/ammonium perchlorate/aluminum powder systems was studied. It is found that the nitroglycerine will be absorbed in ammonium perchlorate/aluminum powder. Volatilization rate of Nitroglycerine is rising and volatilization of nitroglycerine shifting to low temperature. The decomposition of nitrocellulose is free from the influence of the components. The decomposition of the ammonium perchlorate is affected by the residue of double base propellant which includes metal oxide and centralite. The decomposition of ammonium perchlorate in high temperature range is shifting to the low temperature. By the use of dynamics software,The activation energies of one system’s thermal decomposition were calculated,The mass ratio of double base propellant/ammonium perchlorate/aluminum powder is6:3:1.
