Based On GIS Urban System Layout Planning Research

Urban system refers to a combination that consists of an urban area that has various functions and scales in an isolate geographical region, which is one of main research fields in urban geography. This paper is based on the investigation of Chang Yang County in Hubei province. From the point of analyzing the factors that influence the development of urban regions, space analysis function of Geography Information System (GIS) technique and quantitative analysis in statistics are drawn on to analyze Chang Yang’s city rank, city function and features of city space structure. And optimize the current city system structure, which has certain practical significance to Chang Yang’s development in the near future. The main research issues and findings are below:This paper is divided into five sections, investigating the optimization of Chang Yang County’s urban system.Section one is an introduction part. The research background and meaning will be represented in this section. Moreover, the achievements that attained by domestic and foreign scholars are summarized following an order from past to today, and research ideas and techniques of this paper are demonstrated, which provide evidence for the paper’s depth and direction.In section two, related basic notions:urban system, city space structure, city system scheme, city geography information system that underpin urban system, basic theories such as scale distribution theory, center geography theory, growth pole theory, point line theory and GIS techniques:overlay analysis、surface analysis、reclassify involved in research are analyzed. All of these support the research in theory and technique.In section three, Chang Yang historic development, prerequisite in macroscopical perspective, and current urban system constitutions are analyzed statistically. According to the changing situation in population of Chang Yang, practical development situation in every village and town is inferred. Increase in population of every village and town of Chang Yang during the period of expectation, and city population scale can be induced by previous population amount. The current situation and coming development are analyzed and predicted. In section four, the factors that affect the development of urban system are selected. Developing prerequisites are obtained by quantitative analysis. Moreover, potential development of these villages and towns are described. Finally, the rank of Chang Yang is presented by statistics, which contributes to improvement in urban system structure.Sections five concentrated on scheme of Chang Yang’s improvement. Firstly, the principle that should be obeyed for adjusting Chang Yang urban system is claimed. According to the macroscopical prerequisite, as just mentioned above, population increase scale and potential in city enhancement, optimization scheme to Chang Yang’s city rank, function and space structure is noted. In addition, crucial suggestions of how to structure urban system practically are given.
