At present, aerofoil structure design is mainly based on the long-term experience ofdesigners in designs and improvements of the exiting wing structures. The optimal resultswere limited by the fixed structure layouts when optimizing the structures of the above.Topology optimization design of wing structure can provide a new layout design and reducethe impact on the wing structure component of conceptual and preliminary design phase. Theoptimal layout structures from topology optimization not only have a new layout design tomeet the design requirements but also can reduce the weight of structures. In this paper, themain algorithms and basic theory of topological optimization of continuum structure areresearched. Variable density method is adopted as the main research method and it isimproved to achieve the topology optimization of a wing.The main contents in this paper are as follows:(1) The solution algorithm of the merit and weakness and the problem of optimizationresults for the topology optimization of continuum structure are discussed. The variabledensity method is adopted as the main research object. The SIMP and RAMP materialinterpolation models of the variable density method are carefully analyzed. The RAMP isselected to establish mathematical model of the topology optimization problem based on thedifference between SIMP and RAMP, the complexity of the wing structural, the designrequirements of the multi-objective structural optimization, and so on.(2) The improved variable density method with constraint factor is proposed for thecomplexity and the specific design requirements of aircraft wing structure. The topologyoptimization algorithm of ribbed plate structure is achieved by MATLAB program, and itseffectiveness and feasibility are improved by the optimal result at the same time.(3) The topology optimization design of the wing rib and the vertical stabilizer areachieved by using the improved algorithm of MATLAB program. And then, the topologyoptimization of these structures is finished by ANSYS. Results show that the improvedalgorithm is correct. Using the topology optimization technology of the continuum structure and the variabledensity method with constraint factor can find an advanced intelligent design method of thewing structures and determinate the layout design of the wing structure. This method can beused in the wing structural concept design, conceptual and preliminary design or thestructures design in other areas. The optimization results have a certain reference value andguide engineering practice.
