The stability of multi-stage gravity wharf was analyzed by means of reliability inthis paper.First, the calculation model of multi-stage gravity wharf was established andthe loads characteristic of the wharf and loads combination were analyze. Secondly, thecalculation model for reliability of anti–overturning, anti–sliding, bearing capacity offoundation and the system has been established. Finally, combined with the projectexample of NAXIGOU wharf, the most disadvantageous condition combination and theworst failure mode of the multi-stage gravity wharf have been analyzed. It wasdiscussed the influence of step width and the height of superior wharf on the stability ofjunior wharf. Furthermore, it was analysed the sensitivity of the random variables forthe multi-stage gravity wharf’s designing. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)As for multi-stage gravity wharf, the stability of junior wharf is closely relatedto the ratio of the wall height (H) of the junior wharf and the width (B) of the juniorplatform. The smaller the value of B/H is, the greater the influence will be, on thecontrary, the smaller will be. Meanwhile, the height of the superior wharf and the loadcharacteristic will also influence the stability of the junior wharf, which means, thehigher the wall of superior wharf is, the greater the influence will be.(2)Among various kinds of function combinations, the influence of water-levelfluctuation on the stability of structure was more sensitive than the along gravity wharf.Generally speaking, the anti-overturning and anti-sliding has a minimum reliabilitywhen water-level is the same with height of the junior wharf platform, which is thecontrolling condition.(3)Calculated results show that the basic random variables having great influenceon the stability of multi-stage gravity wharf in turn are the friction coefficient of thesubstrate μ, the internal friction angle of packing behind the wall φ, the density ofpacking γ and the external friction angle of the wall back δ.
