When the road cover with water getting a certain thickness, the tire becomefloating due to water pressure. At this point, the vehicle traveling on the road willcertainly occur some degree of partly hydroplaning. As long as speed of vehicleincrease, tire-road surface friction coefficient will become lower and water pressurewill increase significantly. It will lead to the tire lost contact with the pavementcompletely and occurs hydroplaning and traffic accidents. Therefore, it is essential tostudy hydroplaning to determine the safe speed of a vehicle for driving safety in wetweather.Hydroplaning can occur, the most critical factor is the water, hydroplaningconditions are different along with the water film thickness. Firstly, through the theoryof hydraulics and hydrology principles deduced a formula to calculate the water filmthickness, it has been validated using the result data what test the water film thicknessof asphalt pavement surface by Ji Tianjian, Huang Xiaoming. The result showed that ahigh degree of the formula with the experimental data, can be used in engineeringpractice. And then, through surveys, research and analysis, selected of representative tire. Athree-dimensional finite element model of tire205/55R16is created using dynamicssoftware FLUENT. Simulation the tire driving in different conditions by adjusting thewater film thickness in the model. Finally, we make a simulation on hydroplaning of smooth tire and grooves tire. Itget the tire’s hydrodynamic pressure and lift in different condition as analysis thewhole process of tire hydroplaning phenomenon. Combined with the water filmthickness calculation formula and FLUENT results,we gives the maximum speed valuefor the safety of vehicles traveling in the rainy weather conditions. to ensure thevehicles safely, the highway management department can limit speed based on thisvalue.
