As the road construction is developing rapidly nowadays, the high grade of roadshave gotten their ways into the mountain areas of china. Because we have to avoidbuilding embankment with too much earth/soil, and we have to utilize massive amountof rocks abandoned by tunneling and roadbed digging, the rockfill embankment hasbecome the most common structure in embankment of the high grade road in themountain areas of china.There has being a lack of systematic researches on stability deformation ofembankment, In order to avoid severe sedimentations and stability deformations inembankment,we have carried out researches using experiments, academic researchesand numerical simulations on the engineering characteristics of rockfill and thestability of rockfill embankment according to the experience in guangle highwayconstruction.First of all, analyzing the engineering characteristics of rockfill by experimentsrefer to the researches on rockfill dam,we can see that rockfill has virtues of lowshrinkage、deformation rate compared to the soilfill on deformation characteristics,inthe respect of dynam characteristics,the intensity of rockfill is relate to the density andthe soil ratio, in all,rockfill is good material for embankment building,it can certainlymeet the requirements for roadbed construction.Secondly, analyzing the stability and sediment deformation on the basis of theunderstanding of the engineering characteristics. we summarized the common methodsof stability analysis and the category of deformations, therefore, improved the methodand get the better calculation method for the stability of rockfill.From the calculation result, rockfill embankments have the better stability. As tothe sediment deformation analysis of the rockfill embankment, calculating thedeformation of rockfill embankment via improved layerwise summation method on theexisting calculation methods;At last, we carried out simple numerical stimulations on different landforms usingPLAXIS, the results of stimulation is in accordance with the results of calculations.
