The Discussion On The Current Condition And The Construction Of The Greenery For Xi’an’s Metropolitan Roads

The modern urban road is a key component of urban construction, while the road greening inmodern urban landscape is the important symbol to evaluate the city’s urbanization development level.With the rapid increase in economy, the motoring industry are growing prosperously, which also stimulithe promotion of the urban road system, as well as the greenery of urban road. So far, the government iscalling for the greenery landscape which could represent urban individuality and the feature of the times,introducing the history and the culture.In this Thesis, firstly, I consulted lots of reference and managed with plenty of experience in roadgreenery construction from some cities such as Singapore, Japan, Han Zhou, and Guangzhou etc. fromtheir previous experience and the design features. Secondly I made a serious field investigation on thecurrent city roads in Xi’an, such as East, West, South, and North Avenues,1st Ring Road,2nd Ring Road,3rd Ring Road, Xinwang Road, Huaqing Road, Gongyuan South Road, Jingqi Road, Jiangong Road, ZiwuAve, and here is the result from the investigation:1. The regular plants in Xi’an road greenery:(1) large evergreen trees: Chinese scholartree, Platanus, ginkgo, Chinese pine, goldenrain tree, weeping willow, ligustrum lucidum andect.(2) Small trees: prunus cerasifera, sakura, crape myrtle, althea, pomegranate tree,osmanthus, chinese redbud and ect..(3) shrubs: Purpus Priver, Ligustrum vicaryi, purpleleaf barberry, photinia frasery, Dragon juniper, tobira pittosporum, Japan Fatsia, and ect..(4)vines: climbing roses, woodbine, Chinese ivy stem, and ect..(5) grass and flowers: dwarflilyturf tuber, white leaf, Oxalis corymbosa, pansy, petunia, and ect.2. The regular collocation mode of Xi’an road greenery: following the mode of planting greentrees, shrubs and grass together for both roadsides and traffic islands.3. The features of Xi’an road greenery:(1) presenting a compound biotic community by themode of planting green trees, shrubs and grass together;(2) Planting plenty of native ornamental trees,and mingling more new species;(3) Stick to greenery ecology, such as building the foresting pergolas;(4) Carrying the local historical and cultural features.After analyzing the above results, I sum up the demerits of the Xi’an urban road greenery, and here Ialso provide the effective countermeasure considering the geographical environment, the historical andcultural factors, as well as the developmental level: 1. The demerits:(1) Lack of the intergraded planning and design, as a result, the road building andthe greenery construction are disjointed;(2) Fewer species of plants are introduced, so lack of variety;(3)Without consideration on safety issues;(4)The greenery landscapes are not well taken care of because ofshortage on the management fee.2. The suggestions:(1) constructing the landscapes with local historical culture features;(2)rationally choosing the plants by taking both the outlook and the color into account;(3) bringing newspecies to show a green landscape with varieties of plants;(4) improve the criteria to keep the greenerylandscapes in good condition afterwards.
