Lightning is an awesome atmospheric phenomenon in natural world, accompanied bysuch various physical phenomena as sound, light, electricity. It can take great effect to thehuman life and production activities. Subject of lightning protection has been the world’sattention. It is not only the protection for building body, more focused on the protection forpersons and electrical equipment in the buildings. Lightning is not only directly causeddestruction of surface buildings, but also discharge and generate the electromagneticinduction which constitutes a threat to electrical equipment, in particular the weak currentequipment. The research of lightning protection still needs technical staffs and experts tomake unremitting efforts so as to further clarify its characteristic through investigation andobservation, find out the problem and develop targeted measures against lightning.In recent years, since our country keeps increasing the education investment, theuniversity cities and culture education parks across the country are springing up likemushroom after rain, new campus buildings are constructed constantly and the electronicinformation technology becomes more widespread, all kinds of advanced electronicinformation equipment are widely used in various types of campuses. These electronicinformation equipment have such weakness as low insulating strength, poor tolerance abilityof overvoltage and over current, sensitive to electromagnetic interference. The dangerousextent of lightning disaster, the indirect economic loss and social impact are also growing.Therefore, in order to reduce the loss caused by the lightning disaster to schools, effectivelyprevent lightning accidents, we must study the rule of lightning occurrence to campusbuildings and take effective measures against lightning.Experience has proved that the lightning protection project is a system engineering,which has to consider building external and internal lightning protection measures as a whole.It includes the direct lightning strike protection, prevents and restrains the damage by LEMP.To sum up, a total of six measures: direct lightning flash protection technology, commonearth-termination system, equipotential connection technology, shielding technology,electronic lightning protector installation, generic cabling technology. The above measureshave vast importance to the actual lightning protection project, especially for the lightningprotection of weak current equipment.
