Automotive wheel hub bearing is one of the most critical components in a car. It plays adual role with carrying and guiding. It not only bears the radial load but also support the radialload. The quality of hub bearing directly decides the car’s driving comfort. If hub bearinghappened to be early failure, it would cause vibration and noise, even worse, you would feel a"bump" feeling and high-pitched noise occurred when driving a car. This not only affects thecar’s driving comfort, but also affects the safety of driving. Therefore, analyse early failurehub bearing, find out the failure reason and constantly improve the bearing quality seems tobe extremely important.This issue is mainly focus on the failure analysis of hub bearing. Set up the failure parts’information distribution by screening and making statistics of the failure parts, summarizedthe hub bearing typical failure forms. In the paper, the second chapter is based on the rollingbearing life theory. It estimated the hub bearing life according to the Lundberg-Palmgren lifeformula. In the fourth chapter, it mainly introduces the hub bearing failure analysis content,this paper used a macro and micro failure analysis method and analyzed with the help ofadvanced analysis instruments. Finally, it found out the failure reason. In chapter5, itresearched on the failure countermeasures and measures in detail, especially in the sealstructure and the development of grease.This paper also conducted confirmatory bench test for the improved hub bearing in theend. It aimed to verify the hub bearing’s feasibility by the seal water repellency test andgeneral durability test. Before applied to market, wheel hub bearing’s performancerequirements depend finally on the bench test and road test results.According to the result of this paper and feedback of the enterprise’s practice, the failurerates of improved hub bearing significantly reduced. It won the host customer’s recognitionand praise. Meanwhile, the bench tests were also got popularized and applied in theenterprise.
