This research aims at the planning of the modern city sightseeing, and the Botanical Garden is designed to provide a theoretical basis.This paper studies the concept of botanical garden and its historical development, including different countries and different scholars with different definitions. Sightseeing botanical gardens of the modern city is a part of the green space park, and a theme park that has specific contents, form and some recreational facilities, whose function are carrying out scientific research and the popular science activities, domesticating of plants, viewing recreation.This paper studies the botanical garden classification basis and classification method. According to the function, they can be divided into12types, containing the world of botanical garden "classic" multi-function botanical garden, ornamental gardens, historical gardens, protective botanical garden, university botanical garden, move botanical garden, economic plants and preserving germplasm botanical garden, alpine or mountain gardens, natural or wild gardens, horticultural gardens, thematic gardens, community gardens; According to the main role, they can be divided into4types, including research-based botanical gardens, science-based botanical gardens, professional services botanical gardens, botanical gardens of special to collecting; According to the subordinate relations, they can be divided into6types, including botanical garden of sciences academy system, botanical garden of urban systems, botanical garden of the education system, the botanical garden of the forestry systems, the botanical garden of the agricultural systems and botanical garden of medical systems.This paper also study the structure elements of the botanical gardens, and expounds the functional roles of climate, soil, plants, other natural elements, architecture, landscape sketches, odes and other artificial elements separately, which had laid a foundation for employing various elements to create the landscape of botanical gardens reasonably.This paper describes the historical evolution and lists instances of the botanic gardens of different historical periods and different types, and analyzes the function and evolution of botanical gardens.According to the new characteristics of the modern city development, this paper analyzes the new functional trend of the modern city sightseeing botanical garden, and summarizes four principles of sightseeing botanical garden, including functional principle, ecological principle, characteristic principle and scientific principles.Based on the theoretical study of the modern city botanic gardens, the design practice of Chizhou sightseeing botanical garden was carried out, the specific operation methods has been verified by functional localization and areas in the planning and design.The innovative points of the paper is that we studied the concepts, classification and functional evolutions of botanic garden systematically, According to the needs of the modern city development, we studied the city tour botanic gardens landscape elements and basic functions firstly, and the systematic theory of the modern city sightseeing botanical garden planning and designing was formed, which have important theoretical and practical significance for the planning and construction of modern city of sightseeing botanical garden in our country.
