With the development of railway electrification in our country, heavy and high-speed electric locomotive has been got rapid development and application. The safety of railway traffic has increasingly become the most concerned problem in railway system. Traction transformer which is used to vary the voltage and distribute electric power is one of the most important equipment of electric locomotive. The quality of traction transformer will directly affect the locomotive driving safety. In the past, the existence of certain quality defects in traction transformer, which leaded to faults frequently, had a negative impact to driving safety. So, the research of traction transformer faults is full of practical significance.Considering traction transformer as the study objective, basing on various fault about transformer, the paper mainly contains the following aspects:1.Analysis of the principle of gas class faults generated in the traction transformer and the relationship between the faults and the gas coming from the oil, proposed a method of analysis of the faults feature information and faults dealing with.2. Discussing about the principle of gas class faults, judgment methods, gas collection and so on, obtaining the diagnosis methods of gas class faults.3. Studying on the structure of heavy traction transformer, the reason of oil leak and finding some defects on the process of dissimilar steel welded, which leads to transformer faults on oil leak frequently. By improving the dissimilar steel welding process, the problem of leak oil is solved.4. The micro structure analysis and the finite element simulation were carried out on the process of dissimilar steel welded. Microstructure analysis shows that the mechanical properties of welds meet the requirements; finite element simulation results show that the residual stress of welds can meet the welding performance requirements. Both results show that the welding method is feasible.5. Field experiments and running track are carried out for checking the gas class and leak oil faults on traction transformer, which verify that improving the welding process is correct.
