In the context of globalization, the rapid exchange of information promoted thedevelopment of the urban culture, however, the characteristic of urban culturegradually disappeared, the emotion and the memory of the city gradually lost. Thestudy tries to work out these problems of the city landscape by the typology method inthe perspective of collective memory, and then explore a combining way betweenlandscape design and typology, in order to find a methodology approach in thelandscape design and construction area. Full-text is divided into five chapters, whichfocus on Chapter3,4and5, and the conclusion part makes a general summary to thewhole study.Chapter1, introduction. This chapter describes the research background andsignificance of the thesis, determines the research objectives and methodology, andconstructs the logical framework of study.Chapter2, analysis of concepts and related theoretical studies. Analysis of thischapter, collective memory, landscape, typology, etc. The study identifies the concept,regional, and focus. At the same time, the main research and the theory interrelatedwith the study are reviewed and evaluated.Chapter3, the typological theory retrospect and research in landscape design. Itis divided into3parts, Western classical gardens, Chinese classical gardens andmodern urban landscape, to retrospect and analysis the typological theory inlandscape design.Chapter4, landscape typology research in the perspective of collective memory.This part analyzes the type of collective memory and the type of urban landscape, andthen divides the urban landscape into two levels, the one is natural landscape, theother one is artificial landscape. Furthermore, it concludes the relationship betweencollective memory and urban landscape.Chapter5, the introduction and application of typologyical methods in therespective of collective memory. The study introducts the typology means andgenerates the steps of the typlogical methods application, especially analysises theapplication of typology in different landscape levels. For the example of the waterfrontlandscpe design beside the Xiangjiang Road in Changsha, it demonstrades theapplication of typological methods in landscape design from the perspective of collective memory awakeing. Based on the analysis above, the research tries to includea series of the operation steps and methods in landscape design practice by thetypology means.
