In recent years, the transportation of vehicle overload is becoming more and more serious. These phenomena not only damage the infrastructure of highway but also endanger the life and the property of nationals, which seriously affect the traffic safety of China. The methods of vehicle weighing mainly divided into static weighing and weight-in-motion for a long time. The main way, in addition, was a fixed station, which can’t forbid the drivers who escape from detecting intentionally. However, the existing portable weighing instrument mostly used wired communication, which can easy to be crushed by the vehicles in long-term. Aiming at the complex operation, low accuracy, weak adaptability of traditional instruments, a wireless portable vehicle weight-in-motion system was researched and designed.Firstly, according to the topic background and research significance, embedded systems and wireless data communication were described in WIM. Secondly, based on the study of WIM principle and frequently-used filtering algorithms, algorithms which are adapt to the signals’ filtering and weigh-in-motion were designed in this system. After the general designs of the system, the designs and processes were detailedly introduced in hardware and software.The main processor of data collection system adopts MSP430, low power consumption but high performance. The A/D converter uses CS5530which has24-bit resolution and high resolution, and wireless data transmission module uses CC1101. The upper computer of system uses a platform called Micro2440to transplant embedded Linux system development environment. Apply with the design of GUI interface by Qt development kit on the upper system, it can collect, send, display, store and print the information of vehicles and the system. At last, the performance of VIM system was tested. This system can inspect flexibly the vehicles which are likely overweight. It can overcome the shortcomings of inflexible and high-cost in traditional VIM stations. It provides a convenient and effective way for the highway servants. The actual practice results of the vehicles comply with the requirements and achieve the expected goals.
