Compared to the traditional three-phase Induction Motors, Line-Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(LSPMSM) not only can operate at fixed frequency and voltage,but also has higher efficiency and power factor within a wide load range. LSPMSM accords with the national guideline of "energy-saving and environment-protecting"and has good future of industry application. However,due to the complexity of the rotor’s structure and the imperfections of the design methods,LSPMSM has not been widely used.This paper aims at improving the performance of he small power three-phase LSPMSM.the design methods of LSPMSM have been studied. We established a finite element model of a2-pole1.5kw LSPMSM in Ansoft Maxwell2D.Then the magnetic field distribution of the motor,steady-state and dynamic performances under rated load and the influence that moment of inertia does to dynamic performance were analyzed.Finally,a1.5kw prototype motor was designed and manufactured. Results that measured from experiment and FEM simulation were approximately the same.All of these verified that compared to the Y90S-2the prototype has higher power factor and efficiency. Based on this, this paper analyzd the characteristics of the cogging torque, and the simulation studies are carried out to compare the cogging torque reduction effects of different methods.
