The seismic design method based on energy balance principle can reflect theinfluence of the duration for ground motion and other ground motion characteristics, alsocan explain the process of transmission、transformation and absorption for energy verywell, the most accept view for the structure of earthquake damage is the double failurecriteria, which is the first time exceed the maximum displacement and plastic accumulativedamage, the seismic design method based on energy balance principle is an importantsupplement for the seismic design principle. In this paper, from the point of energy balance principle, based on a5layer framestructure and a15layer frame-shearwall structure, analyzed the total input energy and itsdistribution rule under different seismic waves、different damping ratios and differentductility ratios used the PERFORM-3D analysis program; discussed the hysteretic energydistribution rule in horizontal and vertical for the standard and the exist weak layerstructure; analyzed hysteretic energy distribution rule in layer and component for differentshear wall arrangement and different span-depth ratios. The main conclusions are asfollows:1. Seismic spectrum characteristic had a great influence of the total input energy、hysteretic energy and damping energy and its distribution, hysteretic energy dissipationratio decreases with the increase of damping ratio, hysteretic energy dissipation ratioincreases with the increase of ductility ratio.2. Both for the frame and frame shear wall structure, The hysteretic energy dissipationin the structure is smaller on the top and greater on the bottom like a trapezoidal; if thereare some weak layers in the structure, hysteretic energy focused in that layers.3. The hysteretic energy dissipation rule in structural system is relate to the structuralcharacteristics, for a strong column and weak beam frame structure, the hysteretic energyfor beam in each layer is far greater than that for column; for a reasonable frame shear wall structure, the hysteretic energy for coupling beam and shear wall is for greater than that forthe part of frame. The arrangement of the shear wall had a large influence on the the layerand component, the energy consumption is more reasonable when shear-wall arrangeduniform in two direction; The span-depth ratio also had a large influence on the hystereticenergy dissipation in the layer and component, the coupling beam too strong or too weak isnot reasonable for hysteretic energy dissipation, also unfavourable for structural seismicperformance.
