In recent years, with earthquakes happening frequently, especially after the Wenchuan earthquake of2008, studies on the seismic performance of housing received scrutiny of experts and scholars. The seismic performance of buildings relates to people’s life safety and economic stability. The damage investigation of previous earthquakes results show that, the reasonable seismic design ensured the seismic performance of masonry structure effectively. By doing this, we can make "be not fallen down during the terrible earthquake, be able to be repaired during the moderate earthquake, be not broken down during the slight earthquake the requirements for seismic resistance " come true.This paper designed and fabricated full-scale two-layer fired common brick masonry structure buildings model. This model was single-bay and single-depth, which was3.6-meter-long,2.4-meter-wide, and2.2-meter-high.Then structural dynamic characteristic test, dynamic test and quasi-static test were conducted. This paper studied on deformation of the housing model, the cracking and damage performance. To provide the basis and conditions for the experiments of masonry with constructional column and ring beam, and external masonry structure, which have the same size, material and earthquake input conditions.The experiment mainly includes single brick compressive test during the model making and maintenance, mortar compressive strength test, experiment on shear strength of masonry, the compressive strength of brick masonry test and mechanical properties of materials testing, lesults in the average strength of every material. After the maintaining of the model, the structure dynamic characteristic test came first. Since the completion of vibration test, the initial parameters of pseudo-dynamic test were determined. With a7degree rare artificial seismic wave, damage characteristics. deformation and hysteretic performance of the structure were measured through the pseudo-dynamic test. The structural stiffness and strength are obviously degraded after the experiment. In order to further study the structure ductility and deformation capacity, pseudo-static test of structure was conducted by using displacement control method, results in the quasi-static hysteresis curve of the structure, the corresponding limit bearing capacity and the numerical limit deformation. At the same time, the structure crack development and failure form were observed.After the analysis of the data obtained of the test, the maximum displacement of the structure was3.561mm, the maximum power of it was45.0952kN.The structure had been cracking after the completion of the test, and was not appropriate to continue bearing the weight of anything. It provided a comparison basis for the following structure, which was added reinforcement structure column, ring beam and anti-seismic. Through a comparative study, an effective means to improve the masonry structure seismic performance was obtained, which providing some references for further study on seismic performance of masonry structure.
