The geocell is a new three-dimensional polymer geosynthetic technique with honeycombed structure in civil engineering construction. Compared with two dimensions, the geocell has some irreplaceable advantages because of its good integrity good continuation more effective on reinforcement, range of application. Geocells have been used increasingly for different civil engineering applications, including the basic facilities of earth retaining walls, slope, embankment and pavement and so on. Limited investigations have been reported on the functional mechanism of geocell Reinforcement technique has been done, especially the strength mechanism. The theory research of geocell Reinforcement technique is apparently backward to engineering practice at present, Current status of that limits further application of composite in civil engineering construction area. The experimental and theoretical studies lead to great social and economic benefit.This paper investigates the Mechanical properties of coarse grained soil reinforced with or without geocell based on general tri-axial test, as well as the Mechanical properties of HDPE geocell sheets with different stretching rate based on electronic universal material testing machine.The tensile deformations of HDPE and the Mechanical properties of HDPE geocell sheets with different stretching rate were studied based on the strip tensile test method. The result shows that the necking phenomenon was found and tend to stabilization when the HDPE geocell sheet is tensile.The tensile rate have effects on the stress-strain curve, tensile modulus, peak strength and peak strain.The static strength and deformation characteristics of the coarse grained soil with or without geocell reinforcement as well as the failure of geocell were studied based on general tri-axial test. The study shows that the failures of geocell include rupture of the welded seams and plastic elongation of sheets. The geocell have a strong impact on the peak strength, peak strain and residual strength of coarse grained soil with geocell reinforcement were improved observably. The reinforcement effects were obvious. The shear strength parameters were processed and summarized based on different theorys of strength. The combined model of strength reflects the non-linear strength properties of coarse grained soil and the additional cohesion given by geocell.
