Motor is the main power source of modern industry. In general, a reducer is necessary for a motor to reduce its speed and improve its torque. This paper presents a new kind of motor which integrates the motor and the reducing mechanism together, and names it as a meshing asynchronous motor. Because of its new structure and special operation mode, the motor’s magnetic field is analyzed by means of the finite element method. Then the torque is calculated via the co-energy method and the fundamental features are studied.First of all, this paper presents the structure and the operating principle of the meshing asynchronous motor. The rotor and stator of the meshing asynchronous motor are designed to be a pair of internal gears with one tooth difference, by which a high torque with low speed can be obtained directly. In the second place, the coordinate values of a series of points on the gear profile are calculated to construct the2-D geometric model. According to the formulas of current in normal motors and the special structure of the meshing motor, the formulas of current in the meshing motor is derived to prepare for the following study. In the last place, the ANSYS software is used to determine the torque of the motor via the energy method. The energy-angle curve and torque-angle curve are obtained. And then, the torque-rotating speed curve is shown in this paper. Comparing to the normal three-phase asynchronous motor with the same size, it is observed that the performance of the meshing asynchronous motor is better than the normal one. After analyzing motors with different reduction ratio, it is found that the revolution torque increases with increasing reduction ratio. The results can be used to direct the optimal design of the meshing asynchronous motor.
