Reinforced concrete structure is one of the most widely used structure forms in the world today. It exists as the houses, the bridges, the nuclear reaction containers, the ocean drilling platforms and so on. Civilian, industrial and military engineering structures are mostly made of reinforced concrete (RC). Natural disasters, such as earthquake and tsunami, and the terrorist attacks take place frequently in recent years. These all bring great harms to people’s life and property safety. So, improving the abilities of the structure to resist the disasters has become the current urgently needs to solve the practical problems in engineering, and it is particularly important to study the damage of the RC structures. In this paper, dynamic damage analysis of reinforced concrete frame structure is studied by the methods of theoretical modeling, programming and numerical simulation.First, an improved restoring force model of RC members is presented based on the dynamic experiment of RC beams and columns. It considers the unloading stiffness degeneration caused by the damage. The dynamic experiment is simulated and the numerical results are compared with the test results of RC beams and columns with5different loading rates to verify the rationality of this model. At the same time, the damage behaviors of RC members are simply analyzed.Second, this paper presents the damage evolution equations of RC beam and column respectively, considering the effect of loading rate (the damage decreasing with the loading rate increasing), based on the results of the dynamic experiment of RC beams and columns. At last, an8-storey structure of RC frame based on these equations is proposed to simulate the dynamic response process of reinforced concrete frame structure. Then numerical analysis considering loading rate effect and not considering loading rate of displacement, acceleration, curvature, curvature rate and damage of main members is made by the commercial finite element software MSC.Marc and FORTRAN, and then the damage mechanism and characteristics of RC frame structure are investigated. This has some theoretical significance for engineering applications.
