The current domestic large passenger cars and heavy vehicles usually adopt rear mounted engine and manual mechanical transmission. Manual mechanical transmission, due to the presence of natural defects, requires large operating force to shift, which can easily cause the driver fatigue and cause traffic accidents. To solve the problem, Electronic Pneumatic Shift System, which is easier and more intelligent, is developed by research results at home and abroad for reference and China’s national conditions. The main box of original mechanical transmission, without changing, was designed again with the mechatronic conceptual design method in this dissertation and the manual shift was changed to electronic pneumatic shift. Not only does the system maintain simple structure, low cost, high transmission efficiency and high reliability, but also it is easier and more intelligent. Therefore, this research has both important theoretical significance and practical value. The design principle of the control machine of the Electronic Pneumatic Shift, based on the analysis of the principle of relevant institutions of vehicle transmission system, was put forward to determine the composition modules of the system and the function and role of each module. And then, every component, including the joystick, the inductive slide block and the base, was designed and the operating principles were explained in detail in three schemes which were developed on the above basis. At last, to some extent, the design is reasonable because that the technical and economical analysis was carried out on the system, and three schemes of technicality, economical efficiency, and the reliability were compared in this dissertation.
