Due to the ducted propeller has higher propulsive efficiency performance under heavy load conditions, it has been widely concerned by propeller researchers since the advent of it. They gave many kinds of research methods, such as lifting line method, lifting surface method and panel method, etc. As computer technology continues to progress, CFD method has been widely used. This article using commercial software FLUENT of computational fluid dynamics to simulate the open water performance of Ka4-55+NO.19ducted propeller, the specific work as following:1. Use the pre-processing software of FLUENT to create the geometry model of Ka4-55+NO.19ducted propeller, at the same time to create a reasonable computational domain. And the whole computational domain is divided into grid and set the boundary conditions.Then importing the mesh file to FLUENT to take the numerical simulation. We can get the numerical results of open water performance of the ducted propellers and take it with experimental results compare, to verify the accuracy of FLUENT in the simulate of open water performance of the ducted propellers.2. Take the Ka4-55+NO.19ducted propeller as computational model to compare the pros and cons of open water performance computing at different turbulence model and to elect a suitable turbulence model. On this basis, discussed the distinction of the SIMPLE algorithm and SIMPLEC algorithm on the calculation results, and researched the impact of the order of upwind scheme on the calculation results.3. Take the Ka4-55+No.19ducted propeller as computational model to research the impact of blade tip spacing on open water performance. And verify that the cutting of the blade tip can decrease the thrust of ducted propeller. The lost thrust can be compensated by adjusting the pitch ratio. And give a brief introduce about the rudder’s impact on open water performance of ducted propeller.
