Simulation Study On The Cargo Tank Handling Process Of LNG Carrier Docking And Undocking

Sharp increasing in world LNG consumption makes the number of LNG carrier increasing, which brings new opportunities and challenges to ship repairing industry. Because of specific hazard of LNG carriers, it makes very different from other types of ships when docking and undocking. For instance, slightly careless during operation will cause a major accident. In order to ensure the repairers personnel safety into the cabin and normal operation after ship dock, cargo needs to be handled through complex procedures, which requires the sailors and shipyard workers are very familiar with. Training with ships equipments on board can get the best training effect, but due to sailing date, ship position, economy and safety of the ship and many other factors, it is difficult to achieve in reality. Application and development of computer simulation technology in maritime field especially on board of ship solved this problem. The trainees, using the simulator, can carry out various operational training infinitely and can effectively improve their technical level. There is no doubt that it is safer and more economical.Firstly, this paper introduced an overview of the LNG carrier and the status of shipping simulation technology and described LNG carrier cargo system and cargo handling process during docking and undocking. Secondly, mathematical models were established for the major component of the liquid cargo operating system, such as the cargo tank, cargo piping, stripping pump, compressor, heater, etc and presented calculation process. Finally, using C#software programming, the parent LNG carrier liquid cargo system were simulated based on the mathematical model and training and evaluation system were designed for cargo tank treatment process during docking and undocking or when single tank to be repaired.In addition to the working principle of cargo tank handling process of LNG carrier docking and undocking. the simulation system also allows learners to understand the system composition and parameters and their specific meanings. It can evaluate the student’s ability beside the training requirements.
