With rapid development of urbanization in china,the basements of building engineering and infrasturture are being important parts in construction, especially with rapid development of deep excavation,more technical requests because of deeper and bigger sizes.Therefore,optimization design is becoming more important. Being one of branch of civil engineering,the retaining structure of excavations in relation to geotechnical,structure,construction and son on,because of its complexity,uncertainty and region,each engineer has different design concept at all about retaining structure,even different engineer used same type retaining structure,there will be different calaulation. According to descriptions of research, rule of deformation,types of retaining structures and application of software,based on optimization design,describing the application of theories of optimization to excavations.Relying on research of optimization in practices,force calculations and the control of deformation are the keys on optimization design in excavation.There are many of failures in excavations caused by wrong calculations and uncertain deformations,cautious design will result in more cost,on the contrary, design will result in accidents.Based on the excavation at Dalian in this study,by ways of optimization selectons and analysis of calculations,taking the cost as the goble,the project was researched in bending moments,internal forces and horizontal displacements at top of piles by optimization design. At last,in the condition of security,economy and applicationsm, the samples were got soldier pile walls with abchors as optimum results.
