With the accelerated urbanization in China, the amount of urban non-motor vehicle ownership has became very huge, causing a mixed traffic phenomenon which is very commonly seen in urban area. Non-motorized vehicle lane is an important component of the cities’slow traffic system, and the service level of Non-motorized vehicle lane directly affect its utilization. If the width of non-motorized vehicle lane is not enough, road conditions are poor, or during a congested period, non-motorized vehicle will be occupying motorized vehicle lanes and sidewalks, resulting in the decline of the utilization of non-motorized vehicle lane, which will not only cause the decline of entire road network capacity, but also raise the risk of traffic accidents. Therefore it is necessary to study the impact factors which affect the utilization of non-motorized vehicle lane, such as reasonable width of non-motorized vehicle lane, plate settings and traffic management measures, in order to improve the capacity of the entire road network. As currently only very little research on the utilization of non-motorized vehicle lane have been published, so the study of this thesis has practical value. This paper primarily studies the relationship between the width of non-motorized vehicle lane and the utilization of non-motor vehicle lanes under various traffic environment, the mixed traffic line sections of the road are as the main researched objects of the research and analysis which focusing on the current situation data collection and the data analyzing and processing. Then a non-motorized vehicle lane utilization model which is created based on the collected data can be used as a guidance of the urban transport planning, traffic organization and traffic safety planning. The main contents are as follows:(1) The studying of non-motorized vehicle lane related specifications and non-motorized vehicle; Survey and data collection based on a specific analysis of non-motorized transport stream characteristics.(2) Using mathematical statistical methods to quantitative analyze the relationship between non-motorized vehicle lane utilization and its influencing factors; using SPSS software to test and check out the relationship between the utilization of non-motorized vehicle lane and influencing factors.(3) Based on the analysis of the data, the application scope of the constructed model was determined, the utilization of non-motorized vehicle lane applies to some non-motorized vehicles and related factors in the relationship between the model, and the model was tested; model actually applied to broaden the low utilization of non-motorized vehicle lane’s proposals.(4) Recommendations from the aspects of the planning, management and advocacy are given to improve the utilization of non-motorized vehicle lane, traffic efficiency and traffic safety.
