In this study, hydrophilic poly(vinyl alcohol-co-ethylene)(PVA-co-PE) nanofibers werefabricated from PVA-co-PE/cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) immiscible polymer blends, which was a high throughput, low cost and environmental friendly method for preparingthermoplastic polymer nanofibers. A new method was invented by our group to prepare PVA-co-PE nanofibrous membrane. The basic properties of PVA-co-PE nanofibrous membraneand commercially available membrane (mixed cellulose ester membrane) includingmorphology, pore size distribution, contact angle, mechanics, water fl ux and filtrationproperties were investigated. The rejection rate of PVA-co-PE nanofibrous membrane(nanofiber density is3g/m2) to TiO2suspension was more than99%, and such uniquehydrophilic nanofibrous membrane exhibited a flux rate significantly higher than commercialmicrofiltration membrane. The results indicated that PVA-co-PE nanofibrous membraneprepared by this method is a hydrophilic and high flux membrane which could be used in themicrofiltration fields. |
