The threat of ship collision can’t be ignored during shipping, in addition to cause economic losses and casualties, the threat to the marine environment is should not be underestimated. Although the identification system enable mutual communication between ships, the factor on human is still the main reason for accidents, so doing research on automatic collision avoidance is needed to reduce the accident caused by improper operation. This article aimed at establishing a simulation platform to realize the test of collision avoidance algorithm, and study how to achieve the intelligent collision avoidance system which is suitable for real ship. The following aspects is included in the topic:First of all, the ship mathematical model which is integrant for the simulation is studied, a six-degree of freedom ship mathematical model is created, convert it into a form of C++language, a ship class contains the necessary parameters of collisions avoidance and ship motion is created. And the class on creating native ship and coming ship is successfully usedSecondly, the collision avoidance algorithm is researched, Taken into both vessel collision risk index which is calculated by heading, speed, coordinates and collision liability which determined by COLREGS (international regulations for preventing collisions at sea) account to get the specific collision avoidance decision-making. Consequently collision avoidance algorithm is a comprehensive collision avoidance program, not only the study of the mathematical formula but a combination of actual sailing environment.Finally, the ship collision avoidance simulation platform is designed in VS2010VC++9.0development environment. the scaling chart making is realized, the practical application of ship model in simulation, the collision avoidance algorithm and the control strategy is verified. the platform contains the necessary operation and display interface, the program retains the necessary interface functions. therefore it is not only the study of algorithms, but also the basis of real ship application. After platform operation verification, it is proved that the work of this article has certain practical value, the simulation platform is designed and the collision avoidance algorithm is verified by it. It does not only provide a guarantee for the stability of the algorithm and but also played a catalytic role in the research on automatic collision avoidance system.
