With the land used for construction in large and medium-sized cities becomingless and less, the height of the building and the storeys underground repeatedly setnew record. The issue of retaining and protecting deep foundation excavationbecomes more and more important in the whole construction process. Whether theretaining and protecting method is safe and economic has direct influence on thesafety, quality, investment and progress of the whole construction work. How to selectthe the retaining and protecting method is a hot issue and a difficulty of the presentengineering construction. Engineering construction is an irreversible process. In orderto carry out the engineering construction smoothly, we need to attach high importanceto the optimization of the method for the retaining and protecting deep foundationexcavation, avoiding damage to the society and the environment and unnecessarysocial disputes and financial loss. A comprehensive and profound analysis of theselection of the retaining and protecting deep foundation excavation method is veryessential, so we urgently need a more scientific, systemic and practical selectionmethod for retaining and protecting deep foundation excavation.The thesis analyses advantages and disadvantages of the commonly used methodfor retaining and protecting foundation excavation and its applicable conditions basedon the previous research. It discusses the factors influencing the selection of thefoundation excavation. A indicator system for the method for retaining andprotecting foundation excavation is established by using value theory and] analytichierarchy process. We used the same method to compare the three methods used bythe Jinyang Garden area in Taiyuan and selected the best method. The results of theassessment are the same with the real situation and a practical and reliable methodfor selection of method for the retaining and protecting deep foundation excavationis provided.
