Labyrinth seal is a frequently-used sealed method used in the scope of industry, it hassome advantage as well-adapted, job stabilization, long lifetime and simple mechanism, so itcan be used in hot environment and hyperbaric environment. At present, labyrinth seal isextensive used to seal compression engine, steam turbine and blowing plant. The sealingproperty is very important to affect the stability of the device. So, how to reduce the leakageis the cardinal points of research.The page has set up a wrong tooth geometric model of labyrinth seal and concluded froma computing method of leakage rate on the basis of thermodynamics method and Newton’smethod. The method is accurate and reliable after comparing with the other five foregoingmethod.According to the geometric model which we have established, apply the Gambit todivide grid and establish the boundary conditions and then lead in FLUENT to doingnumerical simulation. On the basis of the result and the Flow field distribution in thecloud,we have summarized the operating principle of the labyrinth seal and the influence ofthe pressure difference, The size of the seal chamber, seal the size of the tooth and the seal theshape of the tooth and so on. Based on the outcome we can see: when the labyrinth seal hasthe least leakage rate,the seal chamber depth-to-width ratio is0.9; the leakage rate is in directproportion to seal tooth clearance; sealing teeth relative thickness can make the leakage rate tobe bigger when itself is increased and decreased when itself racked up; the Isoscelesright-angle trapezoidal packing edge is better than the isosceles triangle and isoscelestrapezoid packing edge and the sealing property is optimal when the included angle is30o.
