The single-stage double-suction centrifugal pumps used in open-standards in the open structure, simple structure, easy maintenance; can automatically balance the axial force, reliable and stable operation; leakage of small, high efficiency; flow of large, NPSH small. As the single-stage double-suction centrifugal pump in the above-mentioned advantages of open, so in agriculture, water supply and drainage engineering, oil and chemical industry, aerospace and marine engineering, energy engineering and vehicle engineering various national economic sectors have extensive applications. At the same time pump is a high-energy consumption products, widely used in a variety of pumps consume a lot of power. Therefore, how to research, design, manufacture, selection and use of energy-saving measures taken to enable the pump to minimize the energy loss is the pump manufacturers, application vendors and study designer must face.In this paper, the single-stage double-suction centrifugal pumps in energy-saving open-studies made the following four areas:(1) At home and abroad in the open single-stage double suction pump performance parameters were compared to find out the gap that exists between them for the design of the new energy-efficient pumps provide a theoretical basis.(2)Make the design of improving the efficient and cavitation characteristic of the pump of 500SM35 Single-stage Double-suction Centrifugal Pump through the argument and analysis.(3) The use of speed coefficient method to design a prototype 500SM35, concentrating on the impeller, suction chamber, and pressurized water chamber of the hydraulic design calculations, the main performance parameters are as follows: Q = 2020m~3 / h, H = 35m, n = 970r/min,η= 83%, NPSH = 5m.(4) In accordance with the relevant testing standards of the prototype cavitation performance and efficiency indicators of the test for detection. Drawn in accordance with the corresponding experimental data curves, derived indicators have reached a higher level.This study also concluded that the shortcoming of how we can further improve the research work was forecasted.
