User Research And Interface Design Of Induction Cooker

It is the period that society, customer and product have intensive changes now. As the development of information technology and internet, microchip is used everywhere we live. The information technology has influenced the design of almost all products and services, not to mention the home appliance products. As more functions appear on home appliances user interface, user feel confused about the complex interface because it increases user’s cognitive load and difficulty of use. The principal goal to give user a good product experience is to solve the usability problem. Satisfy the user personal needs, discover the potential needs and establish the user-guided product development model can not only improve the product usability and user experience, but also help the corporation get competitive advantages.This paper presents the progress of user research and design of induction cooker. We launched serials of in-depth interviews to the users of induction cooker with qualitative research method. Through collecting users’information and discovering users’needs and desire we set up a user model. At the same time, we analyzed the competitive products of induction cooker and designed a questionnaire of four tasks, to conduct usability test of induction cooker interface. Then we created usability criterion by analyzing the outcome of usability test. Finally, we redesigned the induction cooker interface based on the result of user research and usability test, and conducted interface usability evaluation to confirm the accuracy of user model and interface design.In domestic household appliance market, the traditional model of product development generally ignores the existence of the users. This paper describes the practice of the user-centered design in the field of home appliance, and the research experience can be referential to the design of future household appliance.
