Research On Perceptual Control Theory Based Approach For User Interface Design

With the development of pervasive computing,more and more system services(such as business,government affairs,health care,banking,etc.)are used by general users.As a medium for user interaction with the system,the high availability interface helps the general users quickly master the system function.However,the traditional interface design method designed by the interactive system has the following two shortcomings:on the one hand,the user must have the domain of knowledge and experience of the system to be used,and the system interaction must be based on the knowledge of the field.On the other hand,the traditional interface are designed from the perspective of internal staff,and only emphasizes the effectiveness of internal office and efficient so that ignores the fact that general users lacks of the knowledge of interface information.The above shortcomings are determined by the task model on which the traditional design method is based.Therefore,the user interface designed by the task model does not apply to general users(non-professional users),and new task models need to be designed to improve the user interface availability.The task analysis technology of interface design method based on perceptual control theory provides a feasible solution for the above problems.The task analysis and modeling method based on perceptual cybernetics describes the relationship between their goals and system services according to the user's concept at the user's intention level,rather than how to use the domain of the professional concept to operate the system service.Thus,task-based analysis and modeling methods based on perceptual cybernetics provide a potential solution for non-professional users modeling and developing easy-to-use interactive applications.Thus,this paper presents a user interface design method-PCTBUI(Perceptual-Control-Theory Based for User Interface)based on the perceptual control theory.Our method can provides users a user interface which is easily to understand,operate and complete at the task level.This approach combines the widely used hierarchical task analysis method(which aims to grasp the relationship between the integrity of the task and the task in general)and the perception control theory.This can narrow the distance between the user and the interface,making the system function easily to be understand and use by users.Finally,we illustrate the effectiveness and feasibility of our method by case analysis and evaluation.
