This article summarized the theory of forest type classification at home and abroad, and worked out the site classification principles in the research area with the qualitative and quantitative analysis method according to features of hilly-gully loess。As a result,we figure out that the dominating factors are slope, aspect and altitude. Through a lot of field investigation and data collection, the author made a terrain digital processing on the application of GIS platform, and extracted the factors of special charts which have a great influence on growth and development of tree with the surface analysis of ARCGIS.In the research area according to the principle of classification of forest site type, and consult the forestation pattern classification in Shanxi Province, a total of4site areas was divided:Bottom of trench, Schattenseite semi-humid type, adretto drought type and LiangMao top,Half a sun half dry type,and also subdivide another nine types..With the application of geographic information technology, we can improve greatly on data analysis and scientific accuracy, on the other hand, this platform also liberated a lot of labor force, improving the efficiency of the site classification.
