The Study Of Cashmere Performance In Northwest Tibet

The Tibetan cashmere goats are lived in the northwest in Tibet. The cashmere goats’ wool quality isexcellent and it is famous in the world. Recently years, Tibetan ecological environment is becomingworse and worse because of people and natural destroy, therefore, it is reducing the cashmere goats’production and the cashmere goats’ wool production.This study investigated the ecological environment for the cashmere goats, determined the fleeceproduction and evaluated the wool quality of cashmere goats in Nyima county and Rutog county ofNorthwest Tibet. The combining analysis methods of field research, field determination and laboratorydetermination were used in this study for a more comprehensive analysis of above issues on thecashmere goats.1. The northwest Tibetan cashmere goats are growing very quickly before they are one year old, andtheir weights are growing very quickly after they are one year old. The cashmere goat weight is about37.98kg in Nyima county, and the cashmere goat weight is about34.67kg in Rutog county. Thecashmere female goats are about26kg weight in Rutog, but it is taller than Nyima county’s goats.2. The cashmere goats’ wool production is increasing with their ages. The highest cashmere goat woolyield is when it is4years old, but the wool yield is reducing when it is older and older. The cashmeregoat wool yield is313.98g when it is3years old in Rutog, and297.48g in Nyima county. The cashmeregoat wool production is different from different places and different people.3. The male goat and female goat wool fibre is13.58Hm and13.57Hm in Rutog. The male goat andfemale goat wool fibre is14.00Hm and13.33Hm in Nyima. The goat wool more thinner, more better.4. The Rutog’s cashmere wool quality is very good.5. The cashmere goats wool is4.39cm average long in Rutog, and4.26cm average long in Nyima.The results showed that the ecological environment of the cashmere goats was gradually deteriorated byfactors such as over grazing and lack of natural resources. Therefore, the performance of woolproduction of the cashmere was also seriously restricted in a low level. Although there was a bigdifference on individual yield between Tibetan cashmere goats and elsewhere in china, but the finenessof cashmere fibre was superior to the other breed of cashmere goats. The results also showed thatdespite there was no much difference on the performance of wool production within the different area,but the difference on cashmere yield and length in the same area of different individual were significant.This study has showed big potential of wool production on Northwest Tibetan cashmere, andsuggested a good feeding management and selective breeding is priority for better performing in thewool production.
