Trigonostemon lutescens Y. T. Chang et J. Y. Liang is a Trigonostemon genus plant of Euphorbiaceae. And the active compounds of Trigonostemon genus plants have a variety of pharmacological effects, such as anti-bacterial, anti-cancer, anti-viral, anti-tumor and so on. Nowadays, there are no research reports about chemical composition and pharmacological effect of Trigonostemon lutescens because it grows only in Guangxi province of China. The studies to Trigonostemon lutescens are almost blank both at home and abroad. Therefore, it is very necessary to do the research to chemical composition of Trigonostemon lutescens. We herein took Trigonostemon lutescens of Guangxi province as research object and did a detailed study on the chemical composition of this plant. Both the in vitro antibacterial activity of the crude extract (the total extract, petroleum ether extract, ethyl acetate and n-butanol extract) and monomer compounds and the total antioxidant activity of monomer compounds were researched. The experiment could provide some chemical theory evidences for the further utilization and provide some references for the comprehensive utilization of this Chinese herbal medicine resource. The mail research results were as follows:1, Sixteen compounds were first isolated from Trigonostemon lutescens Y. T. Chang et J. Y. Liang. We herein took Trigonostemon lutescens by using a combination of silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, MCI and TLC chromatographies and ten of them were determined by some spectral methonds, such as H’-NMR, C13-NMR and so on, including one alcohol, three triperpenoids, three steroidals, one acid and two diterpenes. Their were:Tetradecanol (Tri-2), Methylbetulinate (Tri-3),9-enly-oleanolic acid ethyl ester (Tri-14),3-acetyl-9-enly-oleanolic acid (Tri-15), cholestane-4-enly-3-one (Tri-4),3β-hydroxy-4-enly-cholestane (Tri-5), Ergostane-5-enly-7-one (Tri-12),9,12-octadecadienoic acid (Tri-8), clerodane-4,11-diene-17-acid methyl ester (Tri-9),11α-hydroxyl- doronigenin-16-ene (Tri-11). They were all obtained from Trigonostemon lutescens for the first time.2, The research on antibacterial activity of the crude extract used agar diffusion method, and The research on antibacterial activities of monomer compounds used serial dilution method in our experiment. The results shown that:The in vitro antibacterial activity of crude extract were weak, but the part of ethyl acetate extract was better than other parts and it shown a better antibacterial activity. The antibacterial activity of monomer compounds were not good either. Even if some compounds had the activity, their MIC values also were too large.3, Total antioxidant activities of monomer compounds of Trigonostemon lutescens Y. T. Chang et J. Y. Liang were researchede by using ABTS method and FRAP method. And the results shown that:The antioxidant activity of all monomer compounds were weaker than the ctrol (Trolox). The antioxidant activities of Tri-13, Tri-9, Tri-4, Tri-17were larger, and the sequence was Tri-13>Tri-9>Tri-4>Tri-17. The antioxidant activities of Tri-14, Tri-12, Tri-1were weaker and further lower than Trolox.
