Torreya grandis is an important dry fruit and woody oil tree with high economic value and broad prospects. Torreya grandis which is an evergreen arbor species belongs to Torreya genus, Taxaceae family and gymnosperm species. There are6species and2varieties in Torreya genus.among which America has2species, Japan has1species and China has3species and2varieties. Torreya grandis is a fine varieties which cultured from fine Torreya variation type though vegetative propagation. It has over1000years cultivated and applicated in our country. Oil content of Torreya grandis seed endosperm reached to40%, protein10%and carbohydrate28%. Oil extracted from kernel has aroma and is one of high-grade edible oils. Seeds of Torreya grandis also can be used as medicines and have efficacies such as relieving cough, moistening lung, diminishing hemorrhoid and against ascaris. The vessel grows seedlings is the current various countries widespread use nursery stock production technology, and using this technology can promote the seed-breeding process. In these studies,4light media materials including peat, perlite, vermiculite and mature husk and garden mould, gray forest soil and sandy soil, gray forest soil, garden mould were used as media and mixed according to mixture design method.14formulas were used in cultivation experiment for Torreya grandis. Physical and chemical properties of each media formulas, growth of seedlings and mitsukazu indexes were examined in order to facilitate screening suitable formulas.The results are:(1) Determination of physical and chemical properties of each media formulas show that the highest value of organic matter, pH. available phosphorus, hydrolyzable nitrogen and available potassium is XF6、XF7、XF7、XF1and XF8respectively and the lowest value is XF14、XF13、 XF14、XF14and XF14respectively.(2)During a whole year, Torreya grandis seedlings cultured with14media formulas develop gradually with the time. Among14media formulas, seedlings cultured with XF6-XF9grows faster and well relatively.(3) According to statistical results of three measurements and multiple comparison results, ground diameter and seedling height growth of Torreya grandis seedlings cultured with14formulas were with significant differences.(4) Photosynthesis related indexes of seedlings in14media formulas were derterminated. Seedlings cultured in XF6-XF9media formulas had higher photosynthesis ability. It showed that XF6-XF9might be the suitable media formulas for Torreya grandis. Among the four media formulas XF6was the best.(5) There are not obvious correlation between ground diameter and seedling height and soil nutrition composition There is a positive correlation between pH value of soil and ground diameter and seedling height development.
