The carbon cycle research has become an important issue in global change research. Specifically, the carbon on Earth comes mainly from four aspects, namely the atmosphere, oceans, terrestrial ecosystems and rock. Terrestrial ecosystems and people are most closely related, in which the internal mechanism is complicated and greatly influenced by the human activities. Among them, farmland cover change is the focus of global change research, which is the main way that humans have changed terrestrial ecosystems and also affect the imbalance of the global carbon cycle. Exploring the sources and sinks of the agricultural ecosystem carbon storage is significant for the prediction of global change. This thesis takes western Chengdu Plain Chongzhou as an example to have a research on the influence that farmland ecosystem vegetation succession has on the carbon storage. First, through literature review, data collection, the paper analyzes the changing features of Chongzhou arable cropping systems, paddy fields and dryland systems, discusses Chongzhou agricultural ecosystem successional changes and provide recommendations for local implementation of sustainable development of agriculture. Followed by access to relevant information to obtain the parameters of the plants of major crops (food crops, cash crops, other crops), the calculation of the average carbon rate and combined Chongzhou’s past20years (1991-2010)of related statistics, including the main food crops, cash crops, the production of other crops, arable land, this paper has figured out the dynamic changes of carbon stocks and carbon stocks of major crops with the model calculation and have drawn the following conclusions:1) Chongzhou arable land is declining and the population is growing rapidly, most of which is from the rural areas, so Chongzhou should actively develop a diversified economy, modify the industrial structure and increase cash crops (rapeseed, vegetables, etc.).Meanwhile, Chongzhou should vigorously develop industrial management of agriculture, adhere to agriculture mechanism innovation, modern agriculture park construction and specialty agriculture bases reform, promoting farmland ecosystems sustainable and healthy development.2) In the past20years (1991-2010), Chongzhou’s farmland in carbon stocks has fluctuated significantly. From1991to1999, carbon reservation in the region remained stable and with a slight increase, which plays the role of carbon sinks. However, from1999to2003, the region’s farmland ecosystem carbon stocks was in a downward trend, showing the characteristics of the carbon source, which is related with the reduction of the farmland acreage in the region. From2003to2010farmland vegetation carbon storage showed a weak growth in the area. Therefore it is necessary to increase the intensity of adjusting the agricultural structure, expand the multiple cropping of the variety of crops, enlarge the spring crop rice planting area, increase crop yields, reduce the waste of arable land resources, and promote high-quality grain and oil production in order to enhance the carbon storage of farmland ecosystems.
