Affected by seasonal wind in most regions of Jianghuai hilly area, theunequal distribution of rainfall in different month and different year, the largewavy terrain, there are frequent disasters of flood and drought. Ponds are the keywater resources project and water infrastructure for farmland irrigation, lifeusing and aquaculture in hilly areas in china. The pond was small in scale,needed simple technology, had lower requirement for geological andtopographical conditions, which could not cause social problems. The singlepond doesn’t have enough large storage capacity, but it has the large quantity, sothe overall storage capacity is enough, which plays an important role in regionalwater supply.And if the ponds were connected with other water resourceengineerings by conveyance channels, all the ones will form the irrigationsystem with reservoirs, diversions and pumps, which effectively improves themulti-time of storage and regulation and storage capacity, and creates benefit inirrigation with storage water and preserving water for flood prevention bycombined with reservoirs. Recent20years because of human factor badmanagement, most ponds has not been dredged and regulated. There are toomuch sediment in ponds, even some lose the using function and can’t create adue benefit. therefore, it’s very important to calculate the available watersupply of pond system quantitatively, take necessary measures to improve watersupply capacity of ponds according to status of demand and supply, maintain itsnormal function and repair the damaged system for promoting rural waterconstruction.In t his paper, ar ea of Ji anghuai r olling is taken for study area. It putsforward a simplified calculation method combined with characteristic data ofponds in eight towns gained by water conservancy survey and according totraditional empirical Method and preliminarily theoretical result. Based onhydrological geographical irrigation condition in field work, the mainachievements of this thesis are listed as following:(1)Take the fieldwork onponds in Ji anghuai hilly area, then collect, research, and analyze thehydrogeographical feature and the characteristic data of pond including volume, quantity, the area of rain collection. The materials about operation andmanagement were gained.(2)The basic conceptions are expounded; and therelation and difference among it, available water resources quantity and watersupply capacity are analyzed. Based on the basic conceptions, the calculation ofavailable water supply of the pond system in area of Jianghuai rolling isdiscussed. Combined withtraditional empirical Method and preliminarilytheoretical result, a simplified calculation method is proposed which providesscientific basis for the planning of ponds.(3) Based on t he distribution of pondin the eight counties of area of Jianghuai rol ling, t his paper gets the resultsof available water supply of the pond system of every town in differenthydrological year p=50%, p=75%, p=90%, and analyzes t he infl uence of t hevol ume of pond t o available water supply. According to the hydrology situationand irrigation requirement of crop, the measures how to improve water supplycapacity of ponds were analyzed. It puts for war d the engineering measuressuch as digging and regulation, dredging and impurity removal, andnon-engineering measures containing use reasonable ratio of flood and drought,change planting structure, optimization irrigation procedure and water savingirrigation.
