In China, there are many kinds of characteristics of rice diseases, insect pests andweeds, damaging seriously, wide varieties and diverse forms. The distribution isfragmented although the knowledge of diagnosis and integrated control ofrice diseases,insect pests and weeds are rich.It’s true that we has developed some of the knowledgerepresentation system at the moment which mainly in the establishment of the image anddiagnose reasoning model of diseases and pests, however, these models are mostly theestablishment of characteristic index by constructing a feature database of disease and pestidentification, based on key for diseases and pests.Therefore, the shortcomings are clearthat these models show. At first, it is lack of participation of experts in the field of rice,making architecture of the models is not perfect.There is one more question I would liketo say is that owning to lacking of participation of experts in the field of rice we can’t callthem real ontology because of the ontology constructed are also lacked of effectivemanagement of agricultural information.The domestic and foreign research institution hasn’t constructed an ontology whichis complete, explicit solution to solve the above question both in field of agriculture andagricultural information. In this paper, we first analyses and study in the characteristics ofrice diseases, insect pests and weeds, then provide a knowledge organization system underthe participation of rice experts, finally construct an ontology of rice diseases, insect pestsand weeds in order to classify the domain knowledge of rice to achieve the sharing ofknowledge which can provide a reference framework and results for exploring domainknowledge of rice, research of agricultural imformation and agricultural ontologyinformation services.This paper deals with the study of domain information for rice diseases, insectpests and weeds. We first obtain the concepts of the field knowledge from agricultural thesaurus, then summarizing and organizing the knowledge as items acquired from the first step, finally they’re referred to experts.Then the paper goes into research of a tool called Protégé developed by Stanford university, uses the concept of ontology to organize knowledge system of rice based the first step according to precise rules of ontology construction. It involves a more detailed description of classes, properties, examples and relationships in the process of organization. After these steps wehave completed classification tree of domain ontology for rice diseases, ins-ect pests and weeds and given detail introduction for ontology construction. Finally taking rice disease as example, we use the tool called RacerPro and Queries Tab of Protégé3.4for Semantic Web inference engine to achieve automated reasoning. The ontology has been tested that it has realized the query of knowledge.It is always better to use knowledge management approach which is based onontology to solve the problem of knowledge transformation, improving quality andefficiency of knowledge utilization.
