Forest landscape visualization and forest landscape pattern which represent different forest landscape characteristics are important study contents of forest landscape. Landscape visualization is applying visualization technology to intuitively express three dimensional forest simulations. Landscape pattern is analysed based on landscape indices to identify the landscape pattern of the internal mechanism and laws.Both are combined in study to provide scientific basis for humans forest landscape planning, landscape evaluation and forest management.However, current forest landscape pattern analysis and landscape visualization are two relatively independent contents. On the one hand, forest landscape visualization research focuses on the experience from a visual point of qualitative effects forest landscape and how to achieve realistic three dimensional virtual forest displays, rather than to understand the inherent laws of landscape pattern. On the other hand, landscape pattern analysis study focuses on quantitative description and analysis of forest landscape patterns by landscape indices, but lacks of intuitive visual information. Therefore, this study puts forward a set of technical methods to combine forest landscape visualization and forest landscape pattern analysis based on GIS technology platform. The purpose of this study is to make the manager feel the forest landscape not only intuitive, but understand forest landscape information of the spatial patterns, and provide the forest management decision-making visual, accurate information for forest management and planning.This study takes Mount Tianmu National Nature Reserve in Zhejiang province as an example and field survey and forest management inventory data as basic data. Firstly. using three-dimensional softwares SketchUp and3DMAX creates three-dimensional features model. Secondly, building trees three-dimensional model library is based on Onyx maker software and image texture of cross methods. Then, the landscape pattern indices were selected to analyze forest landscape characteristics. Finally, the use of GIS systems achieves forest landscape visualization and landscape pattern analysis. The results show that it is the realization of forest landscape visualization method by the integration of SketchUp,3DMAX, Onyx maker and GIS technology applications. This method through the forest scene, small class lines, with the model of three-dimensional surface features was superimposed to visualization of the forest landscape. And using the landscape index analyzes quantitatively the characteristics of Tianmu Mountain Nature Reserve landscape pattern.The study results can provide academic and technological support for protection and management of the nature reserve.
