Study On The Biological Characteristics And Integrated Control Of Melon Fly In Putian City

Melon fruit fly [Bactrocera (Zeugodacus) cucurbitae (Coquillett)] is one of the major pests of melons vegetables in Putian city, Fujian province. The objective of this study was to investigate into the biological characteristics of melon fruit fly in Putian city, and carried out the experiment of different lures in the adults and different agents control test to melon fruit fly, in order to provide a scientific base of reaching the methods for management of fruit fly effectively and sustainably.The main results are as following:1. In the climatic conditions with hot summer and cold winter in Putian county, there is no melon fruit fly adults before March. With the gradually raising temperature, the adults reach a high peak in June, then the number of melon fruit fly increases to the highest peak of all year in September, from then on the adults start to decline, especially there has a sharply dropped in November, after December, only a small amount of the adults can be captured.There is a significant difference between different area of Putian country. Due to a larger area and varities of vegetable in Lichen district, there has larger amount of melon fruit fly adults than other districts.2. Using ’Wennian’,a kind of bait especially for both female and male fruit fly can ensure more melon fruit fly than’Lieying’or the bait of’Shixingchong’. The result may be related to host varieties, lures types and the continued rainy weather during the trial in Putian.3. Spraying0.02%’Lieying’(5times dilution)for every7days in three times results in the best efficiecy, followed by50%’Kulong’(800times dilution),48%’Leshiben’(1500times dilution)and50%’Didiwei’(1000times dilution), their efficiencies reach to89.5%,67.4%,60.5%and45.3%respectively.4. Melon fruit fly female is difficult to be controlled due to its laying egg under the skin of fruit or vegetable. The best way is to combination of the strict quarantine, timely trap tagging, field clear up and chemical use control methods, named the Integrated Pest Management from source to field of melon fruit fly.
