For the study of oral fonnalin on feeding and microbial flora in the rumen digestion,4small Tail Han-sheep ram, with body weight of35kg、1.5-year-old age and with the canula of rumen in Small Tail Han Sheep ram, were designed with the4×4Latin square under the ratio in concentratin toforage(1:1). When diet were adding oral formalin with0.0,1.0,3.0and4.0ml/kg, the results showed that the total number of protozoa was9.85±0.66and5.02±0.56and1.70±0.36and1.13±0.36×105/ml respectively, which were reduced49%(P<0.01).82.7%(P<0.01) and88.5%(P<0.01) than0ml/kg group. The number of entodinium was9.07±0.67(P<0.01),4.32±0.44(P<0.01),1.27±0.31(P<0.01) and0.83±0.28×105/ml(P<0.01); which was reduced by52.4%(P<0.01),86%(P<0.01) and90.8%(P<0.01) than the control group. The total number of bacteria in the rumen fluid total is120.69±17.49(P<0.01),191.11±20.27(P<0.01),94.56±13.01(P<0.01),79.60±12.89×109ml (P<0.01); cocci number is93.66±15.16(P<0.01),155.15±15.79(P<0.01),77.21±11.70(P<0.01),68.01±10.8(P<0.01)×109/ml(P<0.01); The number of small bacilli is21.57±2.92(P<0.01),30.77±6.74(P<0.01),15.77±2.63(P<0.01),11.15±2.55×109ml (P<0.01). The new crescent bacterial counts is3.23±0.70(P<0.01),4.76±0.95(P <0.01),2.22±0.66(P<0.01),1.14±0.36×109ml (P<0.01); The number of large bacilli is0.85±0.24(P <0.01),0.52±0.13(P<0.01),0.36±0.11(P<0.01),0.24±0.09x109/ml(P<0.01). The rumen fluid total bacterial number, small bacilli number, cocci number and new crescent bacterial counts in Oral formalin1.0ml/kg diet was increased58.3%(P<0.01),42.7%(P<0.01),65.7%(P<0.01),47.4%(P<0.01) compared with the control group respectively, but the numbers of the large bacilli decreased by38.8%(P<0.01).The rumen fluid total bacterial number, small bacilli number, large bacilli, cocci number and new crescent bacterial counts in Oral formalin3.0,4.0ml/kg group was decreased by21.7%(P<0.01) and34%(P<0.01),26.9%(P<0.01) and48.3%(P<0.01),57.6%(P<0.01) and71.8%(P<0.01),17.6%(P<0.01) and27.4%(P<0.01),31.3%and64.7%(P<0.01) than control group respectively. The pH was not obvious changed in0.0,1.0,3.0and4.0ml/kg group. The average concentration of rumen liquid ammonia nitrogen is25.84±6.654(P<0.01),21.57±6.07(P<0.01),15.54±4.41(P<0.01),8.91±3.52mg/100ml (P<0.01) and decreased by16.5%(P<0.01),39.9%(P<0.01),65.5%(P<0.01) compared with control group respectively. The intake of DM is2078.41±106.98,2284.41±55.60,1965.75±53.42,1854.54±44.9g/d of each sheep respectively. The feed intake in Oral fonnalin1.0ml/kg of diet (dry matter) group increased by9.9%(P<0.01) compared with the control group. When the adding the oral formalin with3.0,4.0ml/kg, the DM intake were decreased by5.4%(P<0.01) and10.8%(P<0.01). This research shows that oral fonnalin can decrease the rumen fluid protozoa numbers with the increasing the formalin doses. The relationship of the Oral formalin dose and bacteria like a parabola, in the beneficial doses of1.0ml/kg diet, the total bacterial count of rumen, small bacillus, cocci and new crescent significant increased than control group, but decreased in3.0or4.0ml/kg groups; the concentration of fluid ammonia nitrogen in rumen continuously reduce with the increasing of fonnalin oral doses; Oral fonnalin1.0ml/kg of diet, sheep free intake increased significantly, while in high doses, free intake reduced. This trend is the same trend as the number of rumen bacteria change. Therefore, this study suggests that making rumen bacteria number to increase or decreasedepend on the different doses formalin producing beneficial or harmful effect factors of the decision.
