Chrysanthemum is the capitulum of Chrysanthemum morifolium Rama.t of perennialherbs of Compositae, which is an useful clinical Chinese traditional medicine and hasfollowing functions: expelling wind, clearing heat、improving acuity of vision, detoxifying.Furthermore, Chrysanthemum is always used in the treatment of wind-heat type common cold,headache and dizziness, swollen red eyes,the dim-sighted. After collecting fresh chrysanthemiflos, we should dry it immediately in case of becomeing brown and deteriorated. At present,Medical Chrysanthemum is made by Sulfur fumigation drying method, but this method wasalready forbidden in《Pharmacopeia》in2005. We made a comparison of different dryingmethods influencing on Chrysanthemum effective constituent in this text, and alsooptimized from the two methods——Steaming drying method and Microwave drying method.This text provides references for the production and processing of Chrysanthemum, and forthe scientific application of Chrysanthemum resource.Objective: To compare different drying methods influencing on Chrysanthemumeffective constituent, and to optimize the conditions about two methods——Steaming dryingmethod and Microwave drying method.Methods: Here we use HPLC and ultraviolet spectrophotometry to determine the contentof Caffeotannic acid、Quercetin、Luteolin and total flavonoids in Chrysanthemum, andcompare different drying methods influencing on these effective constituent. We also usesingle factor investigated experiment to optimize the conditions about two methods——Steaming drying method and Microwave drying method.Result:1.The content of Caffeotannic acid is the highest through Sulphur fumigationdrying method, followed by the Microwave drying method, Steaming drying method, Lowtemperature drying the minimum content of Chrysanthemum. While the content of Quercetin、Luteolin and total flavonoids is the highest through Microwave drying method, followed byLow temperature drying method, Steaming drying method, Sulfur fumigation drying methodis the lowest one. Compare the four kinds of drying methods, firstly the content of various ofchemical constituent in drying Chrysanthemum in the highest is Microwave drying method,and then the Steaming drying method、Low temperature drying method. Sulfur fumigation drying method is at the last.2. Chrysanthemum Steaming drying process conditions optimum experimental resultsshow that release of steam steaming time is significantly effec on the contents of effectivecomponents in Chrysanthemum. With the release of steam steaming time increasing, thechlorogenic acid、quercetin、luteolin content of samples increased gradually, after2min dryingthe chlorogenic acid、quercetin、luteolin content of sample are the highest. As the steamingtime goes, the content is going down. With the release of steam steaming time increases, thesample of content of total flavonoids gradually increased. After5min the total flavonoidscontent of dried sample is in the highest. Steaming time is lengthened again, reduce thecontent. Comprehensively considering, the best time to made the sample becoming drying is2min later after the release of steam.3. According to the different firepower、drying time of investigation in the Microwavedrying process conditions optimization of Chrysanthemum, we found that the contents ofchemical components in Chrysanthemum had significant difference with the firepower goingand the drying time shortening. With the firepower going, the drying time shortening, thecontent of Caffeotannic acid is going up. The content of Quercetin、Luteolin and totalflavonoids is highest when the firepower goes up to60, then reduced gradually.Comprehensively considering, the best time is the firepower going up to60and the dryingtime for8min.Conclusions: By comparing the four different drying methods, the content of various ofeffective compontent constituent in drying Chrysanthemum in the highest is Microwavedrying method and Steaming drying method. So we suggest the place of production shouldspread Microwave drying method and Steaming drying method when they put into production.By optimizing the conditions about two methods——Steaming drying method andMicrowave drying method, it provides references for production and processing ofChrysanthemum, and for the scientific application of Chrysanthemum resource.
