| Objective: The objective of the paper is To observe the levels of serum matrixmetalloproteinases-9(MMP-9) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP-1) in thepatients with COPD at different altitudes, and to study their effects in the pathogenesis ofCOPD.Methods:20AECOPD,31stable COPD and26healthy persons were selected as AECOPD,stable COPD and control groups at moderate altitude(2,200m) respectively.24COPD and24healthy persons were selected as AECOPD and control groups at high altitude(4,500m)respectively. Fasting venous blood samples in all cases taken. The levels of serum MMP-9and TIMP-1were tested using a double antibody sandwich ELISA.Results: There were significant differences in the levels of serum MMP-9and TIMP-1amongthe AECOPD, the stable COPD and the control groups respectively(p<0.05) at moderatealtitude. So did the levels of serum MMP-9in the COPD and the control groups at highaltitude (P <0.05). There was no difference in the levels of TIMP-1between the COPD andthe control groups at high altitude (P>0.05). There were significant differences in the levelsof serum MMP-9and TIMP-1between the stable COPD group an moderate altitude and theCOPD group at high altitude respectively (P <0.05)Conclusion: The results It showed that the serum MMP-9and TIMP-1may be involved inthe pathogenesis of COPD. There may be some relationship with hypoxia at hight altitude. |
