Objective:To detect the level of serum transforming growth faction-(31(TGF-β1)、matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-1(TIMP-1) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and investigate its clinical significance. Methods:Serum levels of TGF-β1、 MMP-9and TIMP-1were measured by ELISA in64patients with SLE and25healthy controls. Results:The serum levels of TGF-β1and MMP-9were lower in SLE patients than in the controls(P<0.05), the serum level of TIMP-1was higher in the SLE patients (P<0.05); The serum levels of TGF-β1were positively correlated to MMP-9(r=0.554, P<0.001), but no correlated with TIMP-1(P>0.05); The serum levels of MMP-9were lower in active SLE patients than in inactive SLE patients (P<0.05), but there was no significant differences of serum TGF-β1、TIMP-1level between patients with active SLE patients and inactive SLE patients (P>0.05); The serum levels of TGF-β1、MMP-9and TIMP-1were no correlated to SLEDAI (P>0.05); The MMP-9and TGF-β1serum levels were lower in the lupus nephritis (LN) group than in the SLE patients without LN(PTGF-β1<0.05; PMMP-9<0.01),but there was no significant differences of serum level TIMP-1between the lupus nephritis patients and the SLE patients without LN (P>0.05);There had no difference with TGF-β1、 MMP-9and TIMP-1serum levels among the WHO class Ⅱ、Ⅲ、Ⅳ、Ⅴ LN groups(P>0.05); The serum levels of TGF-(31and MMP-9were positively correlated to PLT (rTGF-31=0.693, P<0.001; rMMP-9=0.353, p<0.01), but TIMP-1has no correlated with PLT (P>0.05);The TGF-β1、MMP-9and TIMP-1serum levels were no correlated with ESR、CRP、BUN、 C3、C4(P>0.05)Conclusion:MMP-9、TIMP-1and TGF-β1may be involved in the pathogenesis of SLE, and MMP-9can reflect the activity of the disease.
