Objective:To study whether there is difference in cementum and root surface between the aggressiveperiodontitis (AgP) teeth and the healthy one.Methods:18 teeth from AgP,15 teeth from chronic periodontitis (CP) and 23 teeth from healthy onewere collected for study. The teeth samples were dissected to two parts(buccal and lingually)and prepared for scanning electron microscope and light microscope. Thickness of cementumfrom teeth with AgP,CP and healthy subjects was measured under the light microscope.Thefeature of root surface was observed under the scanning electron microscopy. Results:Thickness of cementum from AgP (apical 80.88±45.84μm;middle 45.93±16.08μm;cervical32.35±11.66μm),CP(apical 137.01±77.96μm;middle 80.15±32.21μm;cervical 45.28±29.69μm)and healthy teeth (apical 29.50±11.39μm;middle 21.48±16.15μm;cervical 16.97±8.68μm).Thecementum was thicker in the AgP teeth than in the healthy teeth, and was statistically significantin the apical(P<0.001),in the middle(P=0.0057) and in the cervical areas(P<0.001).Thecementum was thicker in the CP teeth than in the AgP teeth, and was not statistically significantin the apical(P=0.01786)and in the cervical areas(P=0.19215),but they was statisticallysignificant in the middle areas(P=0.00212).Root surface of health subjects was smooth surface;AgP was uneven surface; CP whichhad lots of chaps was discontinuity. The root surface of AgP with fiber is little ,CP with rootsurface is more fiber than AgP.The fiber morphology of root surface is different from AgP,CPand health subjects. Conclusion:Under this study, the cementum thickness difference between the aggressive periodontitis(AgP) teeth and the healthy one has statistics significance,AgP root surface is different from thehealthy one .
