Isodon excisa (Maxim.)Hara. belongs to the Labiatae family and also named Gui Ye Cao,Gou Ri Cao or Ye Su Zi. It is perennial herb and sweet in taste and cold-natured, the whole plantin Chinese popular folk medicine is mainly used for treatment flu fever, joint pain, wound andinjury from fall, insect and snake bites with the effectiveness of stomachic, clearing away heatand toxic, and activating blood circulation etc. Until now,32compounds have been obtainedform Isodon excisa (Maxim.) Hara with the diterpenoids, triterpenoids, flavonoids, steroid,volatile oil and other compounds. The studies showed that diterpenoids are the main compoundsin Isodon excisa and have good good anti-tumor activity and anti-bacterial activity. It is speculatethat α-methylene adipinketone is the center of activity. On the other hand, in addition to thestudies on the anti-tumor activity, peple have studyed other biology acticity of Isodon excisa(Maxim.) Hara, containing anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory,anti-oxadation, especially withenhanceing immunization and protective effect of cardiac under a certain dose. Furthermore, tolook for the main active ingredient, enrich the studies of this plant, we studyed on the chemcalcomponents and anti-bacterial activity of the main compounds.Isodon excisa (Maxim.)Hara. got from Jiu Tai of Ji Lin province, extrcated with threedifferent polarity organic solvents (ligroin, acetidin and n-butanol) and tested the extrcation ofligroin and acetidin.14compounds were obtained through silica gel column chromatography,sephadex LH-20column chromatography, ODS column chromatography, thin-layerchromatography and other chromatographic separation techniques and methods. With thespectral methods of1H-NMR,13C-NMR, HMQC, HMBC and physico-chemical properties,11compounds were identified, there were seven diterpenoids: kamebacetal A, glaucocalyxin A,excisanin B, kamebanin, kamebakaurin, isoscoparins L and excisanin M; one triterpenoids:maslinic acid (2α-hydroxyoleanolic acid); two steroils: β-sitosterran and daucosterol. In thiscompounds, a monoterpene lactone: loliolide. loliolide was obtained from this species for the fisttime; glaucocalyxin A and isoscoparins L were fist obtained from this geuns; excisanin M havenot reported in any review.Three compounds were tested the anti-bacterial activity in vitro with micro-broth dilutionmethod. As the result, under the concentration range of1.96~1000μg/mL, excisanin B and glaucocalyxin A had no or a little inhibition of Gram-negative bacterial. Three compounds had agood effect of inhibition of Gram-positive bacterial, especially, MIC of inhibition ofStaphylococcus aureus and Listeria were between31.25~125μg/mL.
