Objective and Background: Atherosclerosis is the main course andpathological foundation of Cardiac-Cerebral Vascular Diseases, which is theworld’s leading cause of disability and death, artery endothelial dysfunctionand increase of arterial stiffness are the earliest signs of human vascular injuriesfrom various risk factors. Although it has been noticed in ancient medicine thatthe prevalent vascular sclerosis is a sign of normal ageing, systematically andscientifically assessing atherosclerosis as common examination in clinical andscientific practice was gradually developed in several decades. Methods ofatherosclerosis examination include invasive methods such as percutaneousangiography and intravascular ultrasound(IVUS), biochemistry methods andnon-invasive methods. Invasive examination methods are limited because theyare expensive, high-risk and not easy to accept by patient, that’s not helpfulfor early discovery of arteriosclerosis, and most patients won’t receive theexamination until the vascular complication was noticed. While non-invasiveexaminations are cheap, harmless and easy to accept. Although there are lots ofnon-invasive examination methods, no unified index target is approved toassess atherosclerosis until now. Brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV)and Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) are useful in early prediction of atherosclerosis,baPWV and ABI can be measured with one instrument, it is simple, accessibleand easy to popularize. In this research, we evaluated the application of baPWVand ABI in early vascular diseases in people with or without hypertension, discover the influence of hypertension on atherosclerosis. And we alsoevaluated the influence of hypertension with hyperuricemia on atherosclerosis. Methods: TO select73patients randomly with hypertension in Depa- rtment of Cardiovascular Medicine of The First Hospital of Jilin University ashypertension group,to select77patients without hypertension as control group. We use OMRON BP-203RPE Ⅲto finish the detection of baPWV and ABI.Leftventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) was detected by color Doppler ultrasoundimaging instrument. Results: Compared with the normal blood pressure group, baPWV in thehypertension group increased obviously with statistical difference(left sideP<0.05;right side P<0.05);ABI decreased singnificantly compared with thecontrol group without hypertension((left side P<0.05;right side P<0.05).Butthere was no statistical meaning between the left side and the right side.Compared with the normal blood pressure group, we also found that LVEFdecreasd obviously in hypertension group with statistical difference (P<0.05).Patients with high blood pressure were divided into groups by the degree andcourse of hypertension. We found that with higher blood pressure classificationand the growth of the course, baPWV gradually raised, while LVEF and ABIgradually decreased. Differences in groups have statistical significance(P<0.05).Patients with high blood pressure were divided into groups by hyperuricemia. We found that hypertension group with hyperuricemia, baPWV increasedobviously, while LVEF and ABI decreased obviously. Differences in groupshave statistical significance(P<0.05).Conclusion:Hypertension has a significantly influence on the process ofatherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis was positively related with High bloodpressure degree and course.Atherosclerosis is more serious in hypertensionpatients with hyperuricemia than those patients without hyperuricemia.BaPWV and ABI are simple and effective methods to assess systemic atheros-clerosis.
